Zombie of the Month- October 2015- Mindless Zombies by Wyrd Miniatures

Well, you have seen them appearing in drips and drabs all month long for my Zombtober articles, but that's no reason for them not to get their own, bona fide Zombie of the Month Article. So here they are, all together for the first time, like a little zombie family.

Zombie of the Month: September 2015- Zombie Mime by Hasselfree Miniatures

March 22 has officially been deemed World Mime Day, in honor of legendary French mime artist Marcel Marceau. Of course, over here in zombie corner we prefer to celebrate someone's death day. Besides, what could be more appropriate for a mime than to celebrate his death? It is the ultimate expression of silence, after all. And so, in honor of the anniversary of Marcel Marceau's death on September 22, 2007, I bring you:

Zombie of the Month August 2015- The Lovely Ladies of Malifaux, Part Two: Rotten Belles (metal edition)

Good evening everyone.  Ali is a bit busy making new friends this month, so I stepped in to try to raise up an article for her.  Our zombie of the Month this time around is a part two of an eventual four parter starring the Lovely Dead Ladies of Malifaux.  This one is the Rotten Belles edition.

Who let the (zombie) dogs out?

I may have mentioned, nothing escapes my zombie apocalypse. Even if that weren't the case, though, zombie dogs are a classic.  There's very little that's scarier than man's best friend turned man's worst enemy.  That's why I'm very pleased to present this month's expansion of our collection of zombie dogs with:

The Zombie of the Month- May 2015- Bones Zombies! By Reaper Miniatures

If you watch our Sunday News regularly, you know that a little while ago we had this ginormous pile of Reaper Bones on the table when our Kickstarter pledges came in. (And, if you don't, you should. Seriously- I'm told those videos are highly amusing). Now, you know I couldn't sift through all of those minis without kidnapping some of them to turn them into a Zombie of the Month article!

Zombie of the Month- April 2015- Mage Knight Zombies by WizKids

My position has always been: nothing escapes the zombie apocalypse. Otherwise, we could hardly call it an apocalypse, now could we? So, even though I mainly need modern human zombies for most of our games, I really like it when I go out there and find some other creatures that have been zombified. And you know I like unique zombies, too. And you know I'm not too fussy about where I get them. What does that all add up to this month?

Zombie of the Month- March 2015- Zombie Horde (Male) by Wargames Factory

Okay, so, I have this beautiful population of awesome female zombies from the Wargames Factory Zombie Vixens set, but now I have a problem, because now the gender population balance of my zombie apocalypse is off. I know, who worries about these things? Hey, it's good to at least be able to create a realistic population if you want to, right? So, what's a necromancer to do?
The solution is obvious, of course, go back and buy the Wargames Factory Male zombies. So here they are!

Zombie of the Month February 2015- The Lovely Ladies of Malifaux, Part One: Dead Doxies (metal edition)

   I love dead hookers.

There, I said it. I admit it. I love all zombies, but the zombies I love most are zombies with something special about them. And, at least for me, any zombie that looks like it was already walking the streets before it became undead has a story, and that makes it special. So I love zombie hookers. They're like the "Brides of Dracula" of the zombie world- beautiful, hideous, and deadly all at once. And no one does undead hookers like Malifaux. So, here they are, the first in what I hope will eventually be several editions of Malifaux Ladies:

Zombie of the Month- January 2015- Plague Zombies by Mantic Games

Well, a new year, a new batch of snarling undead. If you think the ZOM class picture was scary last year, wait 'till you see what I intend to get on the table by the end of THIS year. I have some insane ideas planned out for zombie entertainment. But alas, the big crazy stuff will have to wait until after our double-campaign schedule lightens up.
In the meantime, though, I still have plenty of assorted zombies, either already in my possession, or still coming at me via Kickstarters. I'm going to start off with one that our regular readers may have already caught a glimpse of in Zomtober. Even though they have already had their picture online, you know I like to give every zombie his spotlight. So, here it is:

Do you want to play the world's worst game of Spinespur's "Be Afraid, Be Very Afraid" scenario, but don't want to spend hundreds of dollars to do it? Do you want to fill out your zombie ranks for a photo shoot, but already have enough nice front line models? Then here are the zombies for you.

The Zombie of the Month- November 2014- Dumpster Diving at FRP

Well, it's now the holiday shopping season. Of course, we know this by the sales that are going on all over the place. So, in keeping with the theme of getting more stuff for less money, I thought I'd share with you one of the places I go to get some discounted zombie miniatures: FRP Games. Ok, so, there are some good things and some bad things about shopping the "Overstock Sale List" at FRP. I mean, sometimes there's a reason things are on clearance. So, sometimes a model is 50% off, but it comes in missing a limb. But only sometimes. And sometimes you get your stuff in 3-5 days, sometimes it's 3-5 weeks. On the other hand, clearance rack shopping is always fun, and sometimes you find some real gems. FRP clearances everything. Sure, some things on there may be obscure, but some will actually be for games you play, or useful things like dynamic bases, or be just downright beautiful. So, I'm here today to show you some of the finds I scored last time I went hunting in the Overstock section.

The Zombie of the Month- October 2014- Bilge Rats by Warploque Miniatures

Well, it’s Halloween time, so you know I had to pick something a little special for a zombie this month. Now, me, when it comes to my monsters, I like the classics: werewolves, vampires, mummies, etc., and when it’s Halloween, I feel the same way. I want to see witches and ghosts and bats and spiders and all that other good stuff I grew up with. So, when it came time to pick a Halloween zombie, I thought of looking for something big and wild, and I may do that another year, but I realized I had something small and iconic right there in front of me that was absolutely terrific.
So how do you get MORE Halloween than zombies? How about combining them with another Halloween classic?

Painting Tips: A Horde's Worth of Zombie Flesh

There are many nice ways of achieving a rich, undead skin tone (see our article on the one-hour Zombie Painting Challenge for four different looks made by the four people in the challenge). Many of them, however, include multiple layers of paint and highlighting, using different washes in different areas, or other special effects that one might not want to take the time for when painting an entire zombie horde. Especially if you ever need to paint models for other games, a multi-step process on your several hundred zombies may take more time than you really want to put into it. After all, zombies are supposed to spread like rabbits (aren’t you scared of rabbits now?) The more quickly you can pop ‘em out, the bigger your horde can get!

The Zombie of the Month- July 2014- Humans!!! by Twilight Creations

When your horde is just starting out, it can seem economically daunting to try to get up a large number of shambling lovelies in a relatively short period of time. My advice? Check into the world of board games. There are an ever-growing number of board games devoted to zombies, which means fairly cheap figures, especially if they sell expansion packs. And nowadays most companies (wisely) choose to make the zombie figures that come with their game somewhere in the vicinity of 28mm scale. The only downside is, it may not tell you the scale on the box, since board games technically don’t need it. Let me introduce you to one of the board games that got my horde started…
