Back to Drawing Boards II: Another Dark Age MTI Battle Report!

And so it was that Belgarath97 wanted to make some adjustments to his list, and so we played another hard hitting 750 point Dark Age game to prep him for the March to Immortality.

Back to Drawing Boards: an MTI Dark Age Battle Report

With the upcoming March to Immortality at Gencon- which Belgarath97 now knows he'll be in regardless of local competitions due to it being an Open Event this year- it was time to get in some practice.  Especially since the point totals have changed, and all his hard work list building and points maximizing just went out the window.

Journey Into Dark Age: March to Immortality Open 2013

Today, Mr. Black made an announcement that made be a giggle like a school girl.  (if your not sure what that sounds like, go here)  Anyway, today it was announced that this year's March to Immortality tournament will be open to all.  The entry requirements for the tournament are simple

  1. 750 points
  2. fully painted (I love that stipulation)
  3. attend Gen Con Indy 2013
That's it.  Show up and play.  Of course now I have to revise my list again. (Just got the 500 points down,
now it's 750, bastards!)

Mr. Black wanted to make sure that, to go along side all the new sexiness of a new edition, that we got a chance to participate.  Here is his actual statement.

But, dear players, since this year is all about new beginnings, shaking things up, making changes, I figured one more wouldn't hurt...
And it's with that sentiment that I announce the following:
GenCon Immortals Open 2013
That's right, players, I'm opening the floodgates, just this year, for free competition. What's that mean? it means you show up to Gencon with your 750 point fully painted Dark Age army and you're in- No qualifier needed. I figured let's give everyone a chance this year, as this year is about new beginnings.
So there's your news. Do you feel that spark inside you? The small flame that just kindled? That's the call of being an Immortal. This is your chance, don't waste it.
More information will come along with the release of our new rulebook regarding format and what to expect, but either way, the call has been dispatched, it's up to you to answer.
See you at Gencon...

Oh, and in case you missed it.  The winner get's to be immortalized in the game via a unit of their design.  Mr. Black showcased the last 4, and if you've been paying attention, you'll notice a sneak peak to the new John Woe card.  You can see the first two above.  Below are the last two winners.  Until next time...

Painting Oaths: Why this is such a great idea.

For those of you who know me, it will come as no surprise when I say I hate painting.  This is not a generic dislike, but an active displeasure.  This really isn't a problem for some gamers, as the grey soldier syndrome sets in and they happily play their games without them painted.  But for me it is.  The spectacle of a game played on a painted table, with painted terrain, and two fully painted forces is why I got into this hobby.  So not painting my models is also something I dislike.  So this is a no win situation right?  No, not since 2CE made me join Painting Oaths.

Tablescapes makes a Run for the Temple!

No, Secret Weapon is not involved in a new Indian Jones movie. (Which is a shame, because the sets would most definitely look better!)  What we have is a ruined temple, a ticking clock, and some fantastic artists renders. Come take a look before it's too late!

A Journey into Dark Age: Playtesting and Activations

It's been a little bit since I updated you on the progress of my Dark Age list, as I prepare for the March to Immortality.  Since my very first game I have played about 10 more games, and I've found myself challenging some preconceptions of the game.  Below are some of my musings and the current iteration of my list.

A Journey into Dark Age: First Game and List Revamp

Last night I played my first real game.  It was an eye opening experience to say the least.  My opponent was TokenGamerChic with a tag in of Mordin56, when she had to leave for work.  For all of us this was a bit of learning as, besides me, we had never even played a demo game.  My experience until now had been a demo game at GenCon last year.  So aside from reading the rulebook, we needed to get a grasp of how the game works.

A Journey into Dark Age: My First List

Ok, it's been a about a week and a half since I declared my intention to pursue the March to Immortality tournament invitation.  In that week and a half I have been deciding what army to run, and trying to come up with a list.  One of the hardest parts of deciding on an army is that I want to do them all.  I love models in all the ranges, and the stories of St. Mary and the Brood really appealed to me.  The Dragyri models are beautiful, and I love the imagery they are using for the Kukulkani.  But in the end I chose the Skarrd.  I chose the Skarrd for two reasons, there are models I like in the range, like the Blood Mistress, the Harpies, and the Sister of Charity.  My second reason has to be the story of how they became what they are.

A Journey into Dark Age: The beginning

Back in August, I found myself at the greatest gaming convention in America, GenCon.  Among the hundreds and hundreds of games available for play and perusal I found myself at a 2'x2' demo table for a skirmish game set in a futuristic apocalypse world, called Dark Age.  Never one to turn down a demo of a game I've never played before, the friend I was with and I set about killing each other.
