The Zombie of the Month- December 2014- "Guys, Girls, and Dogs" by Twilight Creations

Do you need a very large number of zombies very fast? Do you want to play the world's worst game of Spinespur's "Be Afraid, Be Very Afraid" scenario, but don't want to spend hundreds of dollars to do it? Do you want to fill out your zombie ranks for a photo shoot, but already have enough nice front line models? Then here are the zombies for you.

The Zombie of the Month- December 2014- "Guys, Girls, and Dogs" by Twilight Creations

What’s so great about these Zombies? They are an instant zombie apocalypse. They can fill a table in thirty bucks flat. They are, in fact, the zombies I started out with, because I wanted to have some volume in my zombie horde before I decided whether to really invest in acquiring some nice models for it.
Okay, "Guys, Girls, and Dogs" are not technically the official names of the miniatures. But I didn't want to stick three names in the title. The official product names are: Bag o' Zombies (a pack of 100 identical male zombies), Bag o' Babes (a pack of 100 identical female zombies), and Bag ' Dogs (100 identical dog zombies). They were made as extra figures to the Zombies!!! board game, for people who like to see how bad bad can get.
Don't get me wrong. I'm not saying that for $30 you are getting a complete, photogenic, wargaming-perfect horde. They do not perfectly fit the most popular scales, and there is only one (older) sculpt of each figure. But if you need a ton of zombies on a budget, you might be willing to overlook those shortcomings.

The Basics:
Scale- Since it's for a board game, there's no official scale, but they are 25mm tall, so let's call it 23mm.
Genre- I'd call it modern, though you could paint them to pass for almost any pre-modern era, also.
Material- Soft plastic. You can bend their limbs every which way, and they will return to normal. If you are not too concerned about paint chipping, you can literally toss them in a box to move them around.
Parts ‘N’ Bits- notta
Assembly- zip
Bases- They come on small, irregular bases so they can stand, so you will have to put them on a base. The good news is, the bases they come on will fit on anything, so you can just leave them on it and glue it on top of your regular base, giving them a little more height.

Ratings:

Sculpt- 2 brains out of 5- Honestly, for an old sculpt that was just for a board game, I can't complain about that. They might have had better detail if they were rendered at a more normal 28mm, but why ponder?

Affordability- 5 brains out of 5- Ten cents per zombie. Seriously. Granted, that's only if you use all 100 in a bag, which you probably won't, but                                                                                            still, probably the                                                                                                      cheapest you'll find.

Value- 3 brains out of 5- Honestly, this number changes drastically depending on your needs. Think of it as a sliding scale where it's a 5 if you have no money and need lots of zombies, and a 1 if you need very few zombies and have a decent budget.

Availability- 5 brains out of 5- They are very easy to find online, and I have even seen the occasional bag of them in the local hobby shop (Mostly the male ones, but hey.)

Pros: For the instant horde on a budget, nothing beats it.

Cons: A little small for most games, and NO variety of poses.

P.S.- By the way, there is also a Bag o' Clowns (but that only comes with 50), and there is now a Bag o' Zombies Deluxe for $15, which has 100 figures in 4 poses- even better for an instant horde!

P.P.S.- Speaking of Spinespur's "Be Afraid, Be Very Afraid" scenario, if you want to see it happen, go vote for Spinespur in this month's Campaign Contest. If there's another game you want to see, go vote for that one! We have several fine choices available! And who knows, you might just win yourself enough money to buy two of these bags o' zombies, or other great prizes!

A small herd made of a few of each, with a few body parts cut off here and there for variety.

  1. I've just gotten into Zombies!!! and while the lack of variety and detail to the miniatures is a bit of a drawback I've been really enjoying painting them in between more time-consuming projects. They look really nice with a bit of colour variety. I got the mixed bag of zombies and I have the ones that came with a couple of expansions so I have six different poses all in all.
